Hexing, one of the most prominent aspects of the Petz Community, is the process of altering the game's files to create new or modified petz, breedz, toyz, clothes, playscenes, etc.
Its name is derived from the fact that, for many years, it was done using a hex editor, a tool for editing hexadecimal code compatible with Petz files (though not specifically designed for them). Nowadays, hexing is almost always done using fan-created tools, particularly Pet Workshop, LNZ Pro, and Tinker (all created by Nicholas Sherlock).
